Where the Crawdads Sing
by Delia Owens finished March 24th
I remember when this book was the book to read. But I just.. didn't. I don't know why I didn't read it then, there was no particular reason, but I tend to avoid popular books at the peak of their popularity.
I checked this out because it hit a harder to fill category in the Extreme Reader: 17- A book set outdoors.
This book was hard to put down. The constantly changing timeline was easy to follow and Kya was one of those characters who is hard to forget.
I grew up just outside Asheville though and was shocked that the people in the town seemed to always be going off to Asheville for supplies. Asheville is a minimum six hours from any part of the coast. At one point Kya takes a bus to Greenville to meet with her publisher and that is an hour and a half away. Why do they never go to Raleigh? Durham? Charlotte? Even down to Charleston, SC or Richmond, VA? Any of those would be significantly closer than traveling almost to Tennessee. That about drove me insane.
All in all, it was a fantastic story but I am glad I waited for the hype to die down.
